![]() The palatopharyngeus muscle originates from the posterior hard palate, the palatine aponeurosis, and inserts into the thyroid cartilage. The inner longitudinal layer consists of the palatopharyngeus, salpingopharyngeus, and stylopharyngeus muscles. These constrictor muscles work together and contract to push food after swallowing to propel it from the oral cavity into the esophagus. When the inferior constrictors contract, they constrict the lower portion of the pharynx. The cricopharyngeus muscle originates from the cricoid cartilage and blends into the esophageal muscle. The thyropharyngeus muscle originates from the thyroid cartilage and inserts into the median pharyngeal raphe. The inferior pharyngeal constrictor muscle further divides into two muscles, the thyropharyngeus, and the cricopharyngeus muscle. The middle constrictor muscle contracts to constrict the middle portion of the pharynx. The middle constrictor inserts into the median pharyngeal raphe as well as blending in with fibers of the superior and inferior constrictors. The middle constrictor muscle originates from the greater and lesser horn of the hyoid bone and stylohyoid ligament. When the superior constrictor muscle contracts, it constricts the upper portion of the pharynx. The pharyngeal raphe is a midline tendinous seam where the constrictor muscles meet. This superior constrictor muscle inserts into the base of the skull at the pharyngeal tubercle and the pharyngeal raphe. The superior constrictor muscle originates from the pterygoid process, posterior end of the mylohyoid line of mandible, and the pterygomandibular ligament/raphe. The outer circular layer consists of the superior, middle, and inferior constrictor muscles. The sensory fibers of the pharyngeal muscles come from the vagus, glossopharyngeal, and the maxillary division of the trigeminal nerve. The vagus nerve and its branches provide motor innervation to all other muscles of the pharynx. The glossopharyngeal nerve provides motor to the stylopharyngeus muscle. The motor branch of the pharyngeal plexus comes from the vagus and glossopharyngeal nerve. The motor and sensory innervation of pharyngeal muscles is provided primarily by the pharyngeal plexus. Lymphatic drainage of the pharynx first goes to the retropharyngeal lymph node then into the deep cervical lymph node. Venous drainage of the pharynx is into the pharyngeal venous plexus that eventually drains into the internal jugular vein. The branches of the external carotid artery include the ascending pharyngeal, facial, lingual, and maxillary artery. Blood Supply and LymphaticsĪrterial supply to the pharyngeal muscle is from branches of the external carotid artery. Subsequently, the vagus nerve innervates most of the pharyngeal constrictor muscles. The fourth branchial arch forms most of the pharyngeal constrictors as well as the superior laryngeal branch of the vagus nerve (CN X). The third arch also forms the glossopharyngeal nerve (CN IX), which is the nerve that innervates the stylopharyngeus muscle. The third branchial arch develops into the stylopharyngeus muscle. The muscles and nerve innervation of the pharynx derive embryologically from the third and fourth brachial arches. ![]() These muscles work together to help move food bolus from the oral cavity into the esophagus. The palatopharyngeus, salpingopharyngeus, and stylopharyngeus muscles are the inner longitudinal muscles that contract to raise the pharynx and larynx. ![]() ![]() The debates point to major divergences and disagreement on all these points. ![]() Beyond the narrow/broad definitional debate, several questions remain with respect to the following (Erikkson, 2017): (1) the type of cross-border transfers that qualify as IFFs-whether money flows or anything with monetary value, from loans embedded in private contracts to smuggled physical goods (2) the type and degree of illegality involved and (3) whether the source, the use, or the transfer mechanism of a cross-border transfer should be assessed as illegal. 2 Making such a clear distinction in relation to tax-motivated IFFs is fraught with serious conceptual problems, as discussed in the following analysis. 1 The ‘broad’ definition of IFFs stretches the concept further by including transactions that are deemed unethical, even if not illegal in the assessed jurisdiction (High Level Panel on Illicit Financial Flows from Africa, 2015 Independent Expert on the Effects of Foreign Debt, 2016 UNCTAD, 2014). In a ‘narrow’ sense, IFFs refer to cross-border financial transfers ‘that have a clear connection with illegality’ (World Bank, 2016, 1). The dominant narrative, which we deconstruct in Section 2, distinguishes between a ‘narrow’ and a ‘broad’ definition of IFFs (for a review of the debate, see Forstater, 2018a). Yet there is still no consensus regarding the concept and definition of IFFs. 2 For example, certain tax optimisation schemes that make use of offshore structures to get around an (.)ġ Countries have committed to ‘significantly’ reducing ‘illicit financial flows’ (IFFs) by 2030 in accordance with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) target 16.4.1 The narrow definition essentially covers transfers associated with ‘corruption, illegal natural res (.).It concludes with some summary observations. It bridges development and legal perspectives by firmly embedding the legal discourse in the Sustainable Development Agenda and the SDGs. In these areas, the analysis briefly rehearses the state of the debate, questions some entrenched assumptions, and presents ideas that help to reconcile conflicting views. The analysis tackles two further contested areas in the debate: the tension between ‘development’ and ‘legal’ approaches to IFFs, and aggregate versus disaggregate approaches under the IFF agenda. It then brings much-needed clarity to the ‘broad’ definition of IFFs, by anchoring it in legal concepts, rather than ethics. The analysis challenges the ‘narrow’ definition of IFFs, arguing that it mis-characterises the legal terrain. This article reviews and challenges some key tenets of the debate on illicit financial flows (IFFs), and articulates some lines of legal reasoning that can help to define the boundaries of what constitutes illicit flows (or not). ![]() ![]() ![]() It had a powerful richness and punch from the rice wine and it worked so well with the sweet and soft crab meat. Chinese value seafood as a luxury and usually are the most expensive items on the menu in most Chinese restaurants, it has been a long time since I had a seafood feast in London so I was very excited when Mandarin Kitchen came into my knowledge as quality Chinese seafood is a rarity in London. daily.Located in Queensway, the unofficial second China Town in London, Mandarin Kitchen is considered one of the best Chinese restaurants in London and it is famous for its Chinese style seafood. Mandarin Kitchen is located at 722 Village Court, Santa Rosa, 70,. The standout, however, is the easygoing Easy On Me ($13) with a peculiar mix of bourbon, creme de peach liqueur and fresh lemon. The restaurant has a full bar, with light and fruity cocktails including Beach, Please ($13) made with RumHaven Coconut Rum, pineapple liqueur, coconut milk, pineapple juice and orange juice and the Magic Dragon ($13) with gin, dragon fruit, elderflower liqueur and fresh lemon. Other great picks: There’s almost too much to choose from, including other dishes we loved such as Hot and Sour Soup, $10 Shumai and Har Gow Dim Sum (lunch only), $12 and Chicken Massaman Curry, $20. The whole thing could easily come off as a mouthful of dirt with the intense earthy flavors of both, but it ends up perfectly balanced. Ounpamornchai also has a light hand with the scoop of sesame ice cream on top. In desserts, it can be overpowering, but the light touch of matcha mixed into a creamy crustless cheesecake is charming. Stir-fried Morning Glory, $13 and Mee Goreng, $18: In Bali, you’ll find these staples at many warungs (small eateries) as a side dish to suckling pig or even for breakfast. The mix of cold greens and hot crepe dipped in chile sauce brings a surprise to every bite. Savory Vietnamese Crepe, $16: This hard-to-find street food is the perfect mix of sweet, savory, crisp and fresh. But with a menu this endearing and filled with happy memories, luck already has found Mandarin Kitchen. The restaurant’s namesake, a mandarin orange, symbolizes luck and happiness, Ounpamornchai said. Sea bass in banana leaves and sauteed eggplant with sea scallops are among the best dishes here. Ounpamornchai said the high cost of very perishable seafood led him to change the concept, though seafood still figures prominently on the new menu. After a quick menu revamp, it reopened in early April as Mandarin Kitchen. The former Tony’s Galley opened in 2021 with a seafood-focused menu and closed in late March. ![]() ![]() ![]() VR headsets, on the other hand, are still quite expensive, so there is a financial barrier to overcome. ![]() VRChat is free and all you have to do is install it in Steam, and you’re ready to go.
